10 Ways to Be Generous This December That Do Not Require Any Shopping

Nov 30, 2017

Emmanuel. It means “God with us.”

This is why we celebrate Christmas. A generous God sent his only Son to earth.

If you are like most, the act of giving is part of your December. We spend numerous hours fighting crowds, looking at websites, searching for a present that we hope will make the recipient smile.

But being generous in December does not always require a shopping cart (physical or electronic). There are ways you can be generous that do not require any shopping at all. Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Go old school. Handwrite a note of encouragement to someone you know.

  1. Give the gift of time. Put down your phone and computer and spend time with your family.

  1. Feed the hungry. Pick out some canned good from your kitchen and donate them to a food pantry.

  1. Make the call. Who is someone who made an impact in your life? Contact them and let them know.

  1. Declutter the closet. Donate some clothes to a local charity.

  1. Come clean. Do an extra chore at home.

  1. Phone home. Call a family member. Tell them that you are grateful for them.

  1. Be generous with your words. Compliment at least five people in a single day.

  1. Jump in. Find out what generosity efforts your church is doing this month and participate.

  1. Share your story. Think of how God saved you, and tell someone about it.

I hope these suggestions help you, your friends, and your family to have a generous December as we celebrate the generosity of our God.
