What it Means to be a Worshiper

A Worshiper of God

God created us to worship him. Growing as a worshiper means cultivating a relationship with God in Jesus Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, with your church family. We do this by reading the Bible, praying, and engaging in weekend services.

First Practices of a Faithful Worshiper

Pray Regularly

Prayer is our communication with God and is vital for our relationship with him. Because of who we are in Jesus, we can converse with God anytime, anywhere. In prayer, we express to God our faith in Jesus, our adoration of him and his works, and our thanksgiving. We acknowledge our weakness, confess our sin, and share with him every aspect of our lives. Faithful worshipers of God pray regularly, both when they are alone and when they are together with their church family.

To begin a habit of regular prayer, start by setting aside 10 minutes a day to pray alone, and 10 minutes once a week to pray with someone else.

Read the Bible

The Bible is God’s Word and is the primary way he speaks to us. Faithful worshipers of God read and hear the Bible in personal study and with their church family. A daily habit of Bible reading cultivates a life oriented around God and his gospel. As we read, we delight in God and what he has done in Jesus. To start your daily habit, consider following our Summit Bible Reading Plan.

The 5 Identities of Discipleship

The Bible emphasizes at least five identities that clarify what it means for us to be disciples. In the New Testament, disciples of Jesus are worshipers of God, members of God’s family, servants to others, stewards of God’s resources, and witnesses to the world.
